Lake Notes:  Lake Bernard is a clean, freshwater lake that measures roughly 2.5 km (1.5 mi) across and 7 km (4.3 mi) long.  It is claimed that Lake Bernard is the largest freshwater lake in the world without an island.  Ice fishing is very popular during the winter.

Big Rideau Lake

Closest Town:  Portland, Ontario

Lake Notes:  Big Rideau Lake is 32 kilometres (20 miles) long and is 6 kilometres (4 miles) wide.  The lake forms part of the Rideau Waterway, and is the largest lake along the route of the Rideau waterway. The Upper Rideau Lake is connected to the Big Rideau Lake through the Narrows Locks at the southwestern end of the lake.  A public recreation area and campground, Murphy's Point Provincial Park, is located along a substantial stretch of the shoreline on the northern side of the lake.

Chemong Lake

Lake Notes:  Chemong Lake has a length of 14 km and a width of 1 km.  Chemong Lake is part of a tri-lake water system consisting of Chemong Lake, Buckhorn Lake, and Pigeon Lake. The tri-lake area is host to several popular fishing tournaments throughout the open fishing season.  Chemong Lake is also a part of the Kawartha lakes water system and the Trent-Severn Waterway.

Dog Lake

Golden Lake

Ivanhoe Lake

Lake Notes:  Ivanhoe Lake is a sandy-bottom lake but still possesses some rocky structure such as rocky points, islands and shoals.  Ivanhoe Lake has a high population of Whitefish. During the summer months these Whitefish stay in the deeper north end. Some of the bigger monster size Northern Pike can be found in the north end and out in open water feeding on schools of whitefish.


Lake Kagawong

Closest Town:  Spring Bay, Ontario

Lake Size:  13,728 Acres

Fishing Species:  Specializing in Walleye and Smallmouth Bass.  Northern Pike, Rock Bass and Sunfish also caught.

Lake Notes:  Lake Kagawong is the second largest lake on Manitoulin Island.  Located in the central part of the island, the lake is drained by the Kagawong River into Lake Huron.  Lake Kagawong has a maximum depth of 45 meters. The deepest areas of the lake are, ironically, very close to shore. The eastern-most shore of Lake Kagawong consists of a sheer rocky ledge. This ledge can be as low as 1-2 meters, but rises up to 15 meters at Red Rock. The cliffs of Red Rock rise from water that is in excess of 40 meters deep. Care should be taken when boating next to these cliffs, as rockfalls are frequent.

Lake Notes:  Over 650 miles of shoreline.  There are no roads to Lady Evelyn Lake. It is accessible only by boat or plane.


Loughborough Lake

Closest Town:  Battersea, Ontario

Lake Notes:  Loughborough Lake is famous for its natural beauty. This lake is 21 miles (34 km) long and 1,800 hectares in area, is dotted with many small islands, and has over one hundred miles of shoreline. From the lily padded back bays and weed beds, to the 126 feet (38.4 m) of water where the lake trout can be found, this lake offers the type of structure that is a fisherman's paradise.  In the shallow portion, with depths to 30 feet (10 m), of Loughborough Lake you will find large mouth and small mouth bass, northern pike and a variety of pan fish. The deeper, reservoir like portion contains large mouth and small mouth bass, northern pike, lake trout, rainbow trout and pan fish. The lake was once part of a splake stocking program and the odd splake is still caught on occasion to this day.  The East Basin of Loughborough Lake is riddled with islands and shallow compared to the West Basin. This portion is prime habitat for the bass, northern pike and pan fish. The deep West Basin is the prime habitate for lake trout and rainbow trout. As well as northern pike and largemouth bass in the shallow Harper Bay and northwest bay.  Average depth of 14 meters, maximum depth of 38 meters.

Muskrat Lake

Closest Town:  Cobden, Ontario

Fishing Species:  Specializing in Walleye, Northern Pike, Muskie and Smallmouth Bass.

Lake Notes:  Winter fishing in the Ottawa Valley's Muskrat Lake is usually focused on northern pike in the 3- to 5-pound range and rainbow smelt that can reach 12 inches, but many of the shallower bays teem with often-ignored jumbo perch and hefty pumpkinseed and bluegill. Once conditions are safe, anglers can drive on the ice at the public boat launch at Cobden. The 8 1/2-mile-long lake follows Hwy. 17 - the Trans-Canada - so other access is available at concession roads such as the one to Coffreys Point and, at the north end, the turnoff at Renfrew 13.

Nungesser Lake

Lake Size:  30,000 Acres

Fishing Species:  Specializing in Trophy Walleye and Northern Pike.

Lake Notes:  Over 100 miles of rock and sand and gravel shorelines, sand/gravel bars, mid lake reefs and humps, deep water access, long shallow bays and lots of lush cabbage and reed beds for crustacean, zoo plankton and other forage production.  24 rivers and feeder creeks provide excellent spawning areas for Walleye and Northern Pike.


Pakwash Lake

Closest Town:  Ear Falls, Ontario

Lake Size:  31,000 Acres

Fishing Species:  Specializing in Walleye, Northern Pike and Smallmouth Bass.  Muskie, Rock Bass, Yellow Perch and Lake Whitefish also caught.

Lake Notes:  Pakwash Lake is 17 miles long and about 5 miles wide. The lake is fed by three major river systems; the Chukuni River, Trout River and the English River.


Paudash Lake

Closest Town:  Bancroft, Ontario

Lake Notes:  Paudash Lake has several different sections within it; Lower Paudash Lake (Outlet Bay) to the east, North Bay to the north, Joe Bay to the southwest and Inlet Bay to the northeast. Paudash Lake has a surface area of about 755 hectares and a maximum depth of about 46 meteres.

Rice Lake

Lake Notes:  The lake is part of the Trent-Severn Waterway, which connects to the lake by the Otonabee and Trent Rivers. The lake is 32 km long and 5 km wide making it one of the largest of the Kawartha lakes.  The lake is fairly shallow and was named for the wild rice which grew in it and was harvested by native people of the area.

Skeleton Lake

Lake Notes:  The lake is thought to have been formed as a result of a meteorite impact.  The limestone base of the lake makes the waters some of the clearest in all of the Muskokas. On a calm day it is possible to see up to 30 meters underwater with the naked eye.

Lake Temagami

Lake Notes:  The lake is irregularly shaped with long north, northeast and southwest arms, shorter northwest and south arms and several smaller bays. Wahwashkesh Lake

Fishing Species:  Specializing in Walleye, Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass, Whitefish and Lake Trout.

Lake Notes:  Wahwashkesh Lake is the largest lake in the Parry Sound District of Ontario, with 1,721 hectares (4,253 acres) of surface area and over 106 km of shoreline. Approximately 30% of the shoreline property is Crown Land. The lake has two distinct basins: (1) the north basin or Top Lake is the smaller of the two, and (2) the south basin is the Big Lake.  The lake has a diverse fishery with over 12 species of sport fish, including naturally recruited Lake Trout and reports of Blue Walleye. In addition, Wahwashkesh is famous for its Atlantic Coastal Plain Flora. The lake ranks in the top five of all lakes in Ontario for such flora.
