Nipissing boasts an outstanding walleye fishery
maintained through natural reproduction.
The shallowness on the lake makes for many sandbars
along the coastline. The lake gets rough and well
aerated, which partially explains its abundant plant and
fish life. While known primarily for sheer numbers of
pike, Nipissing has a wide range of conditions and
forage conducive to growing big pike. Fast-growing pike
seem to be the rule here. MNR studies revealed
20-pounders measuring just under 40 inches and less than
9 years of age. Cache Bay near Sturgeon Falls is one of
the top pike spots. The south shore, from Callander Bay
in the east to South Bay, also holds nice pike, as does
the West Arm. Try Muskie Bay, the bays on Oak Island,
and the north shore of Warren Bay. The most popular way
to catch Nipissing pike is to troll or cast red and
white spoons along the edges of large weedbeds. Lake Nipissing drains into
Georgian Bay, which is a part of Lake Huron, via the
French River.
